Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at Albertinaplatz and leave Vienna behind, as we set off on our day trip to the Mauthausen concentration camp.
Along the way, we'll learn different facts about one of the largest labor camps of the Third Reich. Between 1938 and 1945 about 200,000 people from all over Europe were imprisoned here. And sadly, about half of them lost their lives. Today, Mauthausen is a reminder of the darkest days of Austria's history.
After a 2-hour drive, we'll reach Upper Austria and enter Mauthausen, where we'll give you an audio guide with which you can explore all the rooms of the place. During the tour, you'll not only learn about the historical context, but also what life was like in the Mauthausen concentration camp before its liberation in May 1945.
You'll have about 3 hours and 40 minutes to stroll at your own pace through facilities like the training yard, the barracks, the kitchen, the Wiener-Graben quarry, the Death Stairs, the SS quarters and the gas chamber.
You can also use this time to enjoy lunch on your own at the Memorial's bistro. Afterward, we’ll begin the return journey and wrap up the excursion at the meeting point approximately eight and a half hours later.
